  • Wanted - A new Parent Governor

    Fri 07 Oct 2016

What does the Governing Body do?

Governors are all volunteers who, with a range of backgrounds, skills and experiences work together with the school to ensure it delivers a high standard of education. Together with the head teacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day management, the governors set out the school’s aims, targets for raising standards of achievement and shape policy and future development plans. The governing body meets a minimum of six times a year, sometimes additional meetings are held if smaller working groups are formed to look at a specific area of the school’s work. We are all ‘link governors’- we are attached to a specific year group and come in to observe lessons at least once a term. All Governors are encouraged to attend training sessions to build on existing skills or help develop new ones. A term of office is usually four years.

    Who are we looking for?

Parent Governors have to have a child currently attending Hallam Primary School and are elected by parents of the school. We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has: An interest in the performance of the school, will contribute to discussions and provide challenge, has the ability to look at issues objectively, can work as part of a team and has the time to spare. Being a governor can be enjoyable and rewarding. Please don’t be put off by thinking you have to have specialist knowledge or expertise. Enthusiasm and the available time is important as training and support is available and members of the current governing body have many years of combined experience to support you.

I’m interested- what do I do now?

Please provide a short summary which should include your picture (maximum 250 words, a CV is not required) with the reasons as to why you’d like to be a parent governor. Please email/deliver this to the school office by Friday 14th October. Elections will then take place following the closing date, on Friday 21st October. If you require any further information or would like to discuss the role further please contact me either through the school office or via email bustanir@hallam.sheffield.sch.uk

Kind Regards Rebecca Bustani (Chair of Governors)

For over 30 years, Kingswood has delivered educationally rich activity breaks for schools. The adventure centres provide a safe and inspiring environment for young people to develop valuable social skills, learn about healthy lifestyles and active minds, and have a lot of fun doing it.
Now that you've registered, all you have to do is collect codes from promotional boxes of the happy egg co. eggs (available in Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, The Co-operative and Morrisons) and enter your codes online at TripsForSchools.net. Each code is worth £10 towards your school's trip - which they can save up to £1,000 on - plus, every code entered gives your school the chance to win their trip for free.
Pat yourself on the back. Your happy eggs are helping local schools to pack their bags for a Kingswood adventure!
