At Hallam we don’t view History as simply facts and dates, but see it as a chance for our children to become detectives and explore the past in exciting ways. We want our children to be open minded about the past, as well as giving them the skills needed to enquire, analyse, interpret and problem solve. We want them to understand how people lived in the past and begin to make links between the past and modern times. We encourage first-hand experience wherever possible; visits, interactive workshops and visiting experts play an important role.
We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this they develop a sense of identity and a cultural understanding based on their historical heritage. Therefore, they learn to value their own and other people’s cultures in modern multicultural Britain.
