Curriculum Subjects

At Hallam we passionately believe in providing a curriculum that is inspiring and engaging for the children, because if children are interested and excited in what they are learning, they make great progress. Underpinning our curriculum are carefully planned skills progression to ensure that children are taught key skills from each of the subjects in the National Curriculum, thus ensuring that the children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

We use a method of planning which is based around ' a big challenge question',  and ‘exciting hook’ which the children will use to generate their own learning questions and a ‘reflective  ending';  these may take the form of visitors coming into school, special days in school, events or trips out.

Staff go to great lengths to prepare their classrooms to reflect the topic that is being taught that half term and will have an inspiring learning wall that reflects the children’s progress.

The curriculum is enriched with a variety of music and P.E opportunities; the Y4s each have a term of swimming lessons; there is the weekly cross country club (which competes across Sheffield); we have specialist P.E instructors that come to teach, rugby, badminton and dance; there is our popular after school choir and Y5s are having a term of percussion lessons from the Sheffield Music Services.
